Future of Parking

Toolbox of Strategies // Last Mile Freight Deliveries

In light of the increased use of e-commerce, frequency of small deliveries, and the need for Southern California’s infrastructure to adapt and accommodate increasing populations of residents, businesses and tourists, and evolving modes of transit; this study takes a look at the future of parking relative to last mile freight deliveries.

Lyric created 8 prototypical streets based on the SCAG definition of major and minor streets in residential, commercial and industrial communities.  Curb-side parking was reinvisioned to accommodate the flexible, safe and efficient delivery of goods that are increasingly competing for curb space with car share passenger pick-up and drop-off.  These 3d visualizations were included in the toolbox of strategies chapter for SCAG, demonstrating solutions to challenging transport conditions that continue to evolve during Covid-19.
